Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is an evidenced based model that is proven through research to be effective for individuals who have challenges regulating emotions, engage in maladaptive behaviors, and have interpersonal relationship issues.  You may be thinking, what does that mean?  It means that sometimes our emotions and behaviors are barriers for us to have positive relationships, achieve our life goals, and contribute to chronic depression and anxiety.

How does it work?

Your may be thinking, I can relate to does it work?  A comprehensive DBT program has several elements, and it takes commitment from the client AND the therapist to work the program to facilitate results.  In a comprehensive DBT program the client and therapist contract to participate in individual therapy weekly, weekly skills therapy (to learn new behaviors and skills to use instead of the behaviors that are causing consequences), phone coaching, family education and problem solving, and the therapist participates in a consultation team on a weekly basis.  This allows them to gain support, insight, and problem solve to best help the client achieve their life worth living goals.

I know, it sounds like a  lot, and it is!  This is a commitment to start making changes in your life.  While Central Florida Counseling Center, Inc. does provide the elements of a comprehensive program listed above, we also realize that not every client may need that level of care.  Therefore each client is assessed upon first contact with phone consultation, and further in the initial assessment to determine if a client would best benefit from a comprehensive DBT approach, or an informed DBT approach (which is many of the elements listed above, and maybe not all elements).
